It depends somewhat on the situation, but generally looking good opens a lot of doors. People respect you more, and frankly are more interested in having you on their team. Many studies have shown this.

Possible exception: If the decision maker is a woman, then they might hesitate to hire someone that looks a lot better than they do. But, I don't think this happens often. Even plain looking women usually favor good looking women.

In terms of beauty, there is a difference between looking really good in a business appropriate way, versus looking trashy or trying to hard to be sexy. I would not hire someone that looked a bit trashy. I would question if they are serious about the job and understand what is appropriate at work.

The important thing to remember is, you have a lot of control over how good you look. Most ';butt ugly'; people could look a lot better. Wear neat, good looking, stylish - but not vampy clothes. Women, use the right amount of makeup that makes you look good, but does not make you look made up. Women and men, spend a little bit of money to get your hair looking good.

Finally, you are a unique wonderful valuable person committed to doing a great job. With that spirit of confidence you will look a whole lot better.

Yes. But being pretty has a disadvantage as well. Ugly girls get more respect from other girls than pretty ones becuase they don't cause a competative feeling in the other girls. My experience with men and being a pretty girl is that a group of men will keep a pretty girl around not because they think shes all that smart, they'll keep her around for something beautiful to look at. The downside to it is that the only thing she ever got credit for is her looks and not her mind. Pretty girls (the ones that are shy) are the loneliest people you'll ever meet.

Yes. Men especially (although women too to an extent) are judged by the ';attractiveness'; of the woman they can ';keep';. Thus, the power of a woman's beauty is only valid in a relationship or if a powerful man can give her things because of it. A man's power, something like income, is dependent only on himself. A woman's beauty is worth nothing in a vacuum with no one to judge her or reward her. If a beautiful woman is thusly dating a subpar man (in looks, income, or otherwise), the colloquial muttering is ';what a waste';. What a waste indeed! For if a woman's beauty is her only bargaining chip, settling down with someone that society thinks undeserving of the possession of such a girlfriend or wife means that she is not using her looks, and that they are worthless. It does, however, mean that his social standing is boosted by attracting and ';keeping'; a woman that some would say is ';out of his league';. The same is not for women who date someone ';out of their league';. .They are gossiped about, and he is assumed to be whipped. This is a multi faceted question if a man ';owns'; a woman of great beauty and she is willing to be used for his sake and his power. (sex pawn, personal spy ect)

Then yes I agree that he will benefit more then she however she believes that she gets equal power/profit when in fact she does not.

I'm interested in becoming a consultant cause I have a love for cosmetics. . . but how well does it pay? Is it worth it? What are some of the dowfalls and pluses to this?Is anyone a beauty consultant in a department store or maybe for Sephora?
Department store consultants are paid higher than Sephora consultants. Department stores pay anywhere from $9-$18 an hour depending on your experience and the area you live in. Typically you get gratis on top of that. Gratis is where the company gives you anywhere from $100-$500 worth of free cosmetics every 6 months (varies by store and counter) to ensure you are wearing their product while working. You also make commission. This varies from store to store but typically it's paid at 3% rate. This means after sales tax you get 3% back on your paycheck for anything you sell. I find at christmas time is when commission really adds up. The downside is that you are on your feet all day, you work retail hours meaning you work evenings, weekends, and some holidays and none of it's a set schedule. You also may be required to meet sales goals and can be disciplined if you don't meet those goals. For example, your manager could require you to sell $500 worth of cosmetics a night. If you have a slow night with very few customers you'll really struggle to meet that goal. Also, some counters focus more on sales skills rather than makeup skill. Many times you'll work with others who don't know eyeliner from mascara but they can talk a customer into buying anything so they get to work for the makeup counter. The plus is that it's really a fun job. The best is getting to see and play with the new colors before anyone else sees them and also just getting to be around makeup and help people everyday. You'll be amazed at the bond you'll form with some of your customers. It's a wonderful feeling.

Sephora pays $7-$9 an hour. They really don't normally go over that amount no matter what market you are in. They don't do commission. They do bonuses. Bonuses are based on the entire sales team's performance. For instance one month they may want to push a specific line and a specific new product in that line. The manager will ask that as a team the store must sell X number of bottles of that item. If the store hits that goal then you all get a set bonus amount on your check. It's good if everyone is a team player, bad if you have those who figure out that they can let everyone else bust their behind to reach the goal cuz they get paid whether they sell any of that item or not. Sephora also will have vendors (cosmetic companies they sell) come in and do classes for the staff on whatever their new product is before it's put on the shelves. These classes are not mandatory but you don't get paid any hourly wages to attend them. Instead of pay they give you one of the new products they are teaching. You could potentially end up the with the greatest new product stash ever but you have to invest some time into it. With Sephora you are also working retail hours and on your feet all day. You also get the reward of working with makeup and working with people who love makeup. Sephora is less likely to hire someone who is pushy in sales where department stores look for that type of person. The trade off is the pay. Sephora tends to be kinder to their employees than department stores and they tend to create a more supportive work environment to make up for their lack of pay.Is anyone a beauty consultant in a department store or maybe for Sephora?

Most companies these days DON'T test products on animals and they use ingredients that they know are safe to use.

Even the ingredients used by Body Shop have been tested on animals by someone else. But Body Shop don't do any testing on animals themselves.

I agree that formulations using natural ingredients are better than non-natural ingredients. But don't assume that just because something is natural it is safe to use. As someone else has said there are quite a few brands that sell under the canopy of not tested on animals but, that means the finished product not the individual ingredient's!

Also, when thinking about these things you have to consider other products such as toothpaste, I heard a long time ago that Colgate do test on animals.
You are asking the wrong question as some of the manafacturers do not test them on animals due to the ingredients already been tested.

So if they claim not to test on animals for cosmetics then ask yourself why not? You will find a lot of strange things used to mis-inform the general public.

If you ever wondered why Body Shop's slogan is 'Against animal testing' rather than 'Our products have not been tested on animals', it's because that even though the finished product is not tested on animals, the actual ingredients are - prior to being mixed to a product.

Seriously, make you own stuff, it's fun, cheap and you get such satisfaction out of it. Furthermore, you avoid allergens and parabens (hormones) which is otherwise almost impossible to avoid today.

To get better, thicker, longer lashes I generally put mascara on and then let it dry. Once dry I apply some face powder to my lashes to thicken them up and then add another layer of mascara.

This usually looks good when I'm wearing black eyeshadow on just the top eye lid. Makes my top eyelid look really black and appears like nice long lashes.Has anyone got any really good make-up and beauty techniques?
I've got heaps!!!

Wash your face twice a day with a cleanser suitable to your skin type. I prefer to wash off cleanser and rinse well, pat skin dry with a clean soft cloth or tissue. Using toner prepares the skin for moisturizer and also removes any last traces of cleanser, oil or make up.

Whenever going out into the environment protect your skin with moisturizer and/or a good sunscreen SPF15+.

I don't recommend teenagers or people with oily skin to use a night cream unless there skin feels dry. Over 20yr olds, use a night cream to suit your skin type.

Before applying makeup make sure your skin is clean, dry and moisturized.

That's the essential basics. I could writ e a book on it.
Eyes-

Use eyeliner and mascara to make them stand out.Brown or Orangee eye shadow would be good for you.

Hair-

Get a trim and ask for a fringe. Keep it in good condition by washing once every two weeks.

P.s-

Less is always more. Try and keep it natural but with oranges and browns thrown in, Earthy colours.
use more earthy tones like golds browns tan bronze beige greens (all shades) for eyes. peachy blush for cheeks. a shimmery pink/peachy lipgloss. also, always play up either the eyes or the lips but not both together. and less is always more------------meaning that you dont have to wear a load of make-up. try to make it look as if it was effortless.

If you pick it open or it starts to take on a weird and abnormal shape, i would see a dermotoligist or doctor about it, as it could be melanoma. Other than that, my friend Megan has a spot just like taht on her leg and it is perfectly fine.

I wouldn't do this one. Even the browns can turn color on you, especially since your face is always exposed to the sun. If they use too dark of a color it will turn grey. If they use a lighter brown it will likely turn red.

While this is a pretty cool idea, and I'm the last person to advise against getting a tattoo, please think about whether you'd want this mark on your face permanently. Tattoos elsewhere will be easy to cover up in case you change you mind somewhere along the line, but something on your face will be terribly hard to mask.

If you can deal with having it there for the rest of your life and won't regret your decision, go for it. :)
I think it's a really cool and unique idea. I think if you were going to get one, get it with a brownish ink so it looks real. A lot of people have cosmetic tattoos, like eyeliner, eyebrows and what not. It's a really neat idea and if you find the right artist and take proper care of it, it'll look awesome!

Many products that aren't good for your hair can contain those ingredients. Many products that boast these ingredients will usually have a small porportion in them compared to other non-natural ingredients. For example, to correctly read the ingredients list for any product: The ingredients listed closer to the top of the ingredients list will have a higher porportion of those ingredients compared to those further down the line. The last ingredient on the list has the least amount of that ingredient in the product. If you read the ingredients list for many of these products that boast natural ingredients then you'll see that those natural ingredients are usually included further down the list, while the ingredients that aren't good for your hair are included nearer the top (petroleum, mineral oil, etc).

You can also buy these natural products in their 100% natural form. Olive oil you can buy at the grocery store in the cooking isle. I buy Olive oil and add that to my hair products for added moisture. You can do the same with all the natural ingredients you listed, or use them without adding them to anything.

I'm thinking of doo gro, which is basically grease and is not good for your hair. Most of the time when people say their hair is not growing then it's because it's breaking off. Your hair might be growing well, but if it's breaking off at the ends then you're negating your new growth, and possibly *losing* length. Keep breakage to a very minimum and you'll see that your hair really is growing.

Instead of grease use a light hair and scalp conditioner. Grease clogs your pores and hampers hair growth. If you compare the ingredients of a light hair and scalp conditioner to those contained in grease then you'll see a big difference because light hair and scalp conditioner does not contain all the bad ingredients and pore clogging ingredients that grease contains. You can also tell the difference from looking at the two, grease is and looks heavier. Blue Magic is an example of grease that should go no where near your scalp and hair and TCB Light hair and scalp conditioner is something that would be better. Buy something that's light because it doesn't weigh-down your hair and make it very greasy/oily looking.

I use mainly 100% natural moisturizers for my hair. Pure shea butter, olive oil, mango butter, jojoba butter. Find a health foods store and they will sell some of this stuff. The tutition is different. It will be cheaper to go to a lesser known school in a small town, then it would to go to one(or a Bigger name.) in a City...Esthetics and Cosmetology are different licensed. Esthetics is just skin, Where cosmetology is Skin, Hair and Nails. If you want to do both, Cosmetology is the license you would want to go for, because you will be licensed in HAir, Skin and Nails...and you can easily specialize in Esthetics, If you wanted.How much does it cost to go to beauty school?

Depends on the woman. Some do it because it's simply FUN to check out all the pretty colors and see which ones match best with their skin tone and clothing. Others do it out of boredom lol. Then of course, there are those women who try and fit into societies standards on what is pegged as acceptable and attractive in a woman. I think that women themselves enjoy it. They like looking pretty, getting attention, feeling presentable from head to toe, it gives them confidence. But I guess you're right in a way, because not all women act this way, it's the representative majority, in varying extents, that sort of give this stereotype to all women.

And sometimes it's not pressure from society, it's just pressure to look good at school or work or at a party or just at the mall.
I don't enjoy painting my nails but I do it because it makes them look nice. I don't always wear polish on them, sometimes I just do a french manicure. I don't enjoy putting on make-up either, but I do wear it because I look better with a little bit on. I would rather get my nails done rather than do them myself, but I don't like to spend the money for something I can just as easily do at home.
They do it because they are rewarded for doing it, that is getting male attention and enhancing self-esteem as a consequence of becoming more beautiful.

well when enjoy doing it sometimes. i don't feel pressured to do so. but their are times when i don't really care one way or the other and at those times i don't do any of that stuff. i don't feel pressured to be that way, i don't need to do any of that to know i'm a woman. my ovaries are all the proof i need.
Some women enjoy it, some do it because it's expected, and some of us hate it and avoid makeup, nail polish, and beauty products at all costs. To me it's a huge waste of money and time, and am so glad I don't have to use that stuff.
I still enjoy getting ready for special events like weddings or big dates. The basic make-up stuff that I do every morning to go to work is more of a chore at this point. The novelty of that wore off sometime during middle school.
I like trying these things, mainly I do it on a weekend and just wear it around the house. But I don't expect that I have to in public, I always go without make-up.
Women do it because they enjoy it. There is no law that says you have to do those things if you don't want to.

some schools allow you to go work at a hair salon and watch and help around. you learn alot. even asking for a part time job at a local hair salon (maybe not a huge one, but a tiny small business salon is nice.) you'd just clean up and help around (you dont cut hair or do anything like that), and most lady's or men will be willing to let you watch and learn, and maybe even teach you a few things, but you have to go to beauty school if you want to do peoples hair. they might ask you to wash peoples hair now and then. its really good experience to watch them cut, dye, ect peoples hair and see how its done. also... you can buy those big doll heads in toy stores, there not that much money.(they make them for girls to braid and such, but you can cut the hair, wont be the same as real hair though..) they would be good to practice on if you really needed to.but for now though, my advice is watch and learn until you get the opportunity for beauty school. and i wouldn't try cutting someones hair, or your own until you have somewhat of an idea what to do.

Well, if you want to be become a professional and work at any decent salon you are going to have to go to some type of beauty school to get your cosmotology license. If you don't, you probably won't get any clients. Sorry.

I know in my area we have something called the Career Center, where high school students can go and take cosmotology classes and get their cosmotology licenses during the school day. I know we aren't the only city that has one, so you should look into it and see if there is one in your area. However, if you want to work at a salon that is a little higher on the ladder than like BoRics, then you should really go to a professional cosmotology school on top of that.

The more training you have, the more clients you have, the better the salon you get the work at. Plain and simple.
Try 2 get part time work at a hairdressers if your luck they might give you some pointers.Other than that i think you need 2 wait till your old enough. Or use 1 of those doll heads thats what my daughter does she wants 2 be a hairdressers %26amp; she has a dolls head that she cuts all the time. You can get them at a toy shop. I need 2 get my daughter another 1 but she has done a really good job. So thats 1 way of learning until your older.

The best way I can imagine is to have a lot of friends and family that are willing to let you practice on their hair. The only way to be good at this is practice, hands on. Although if you want to make it a profession, I would recomend getting certified via a training program/school.

this is for my sociology of gender class and there's some information about the gender inequality of beauty in regards to aging, but i just don't know how to present it to the class and what kind of info. i was thinking powerpoint and maybe some magazine ads to show aging, but i need more ideas. any suggestions is needed.Ideas about presenting info about gender inequality in beauty and aging?
You might present the thesis that the age/ gender factor was created by the commercial market. It is fairly easy to find the number of ways youth and gender play a role in advertising. That approach alone would be more material than you could possibly use. I have included two sites below that might help. One will give you the history of labelling beauty and the second one with ways that have been used to determine what attracts. If you google ';beauty versus handsome';, there are several sites that might be helpful. Watch TV and record in some way how commercials constantly bombard the public with these ideas.

You might also bring out the aspect of a male dominated society in the field of business which helped create all of this.

Patrick Stewart was named sexiest man alive some years ago by some pop culture magazine. When was the last time a woman of his years was valued for her beauty? I would just gather as many examples from media that tend to support the theory that women are objectified and sexualized more for their youth and men more for their strength/confidence.

I love the strength I have found in older women. They seem to come into their own as their men retire. I could name about 50 gorgeous women over 50 here without stopping to think without having to resort to the movie industry's Goldie Hawn, Oprah, Diane Canon, Tina Turner, etc. etc. I think Laura Bush is beautiful and her confidence makes her magnetic.

Maybe you need to start your premise from a different perspective. I have also noticed that women bounce back more effectively and quicker when they lose a job, and are far more likely to start their own business after the age of 50 which is not so typical of the men I know.

They appeal to the better sense of the consumer but in that they are telling you that they are the only ones who care so you should support them. They have a lovely ageing product line called 'pro aging' which isn't anti aging... so it must be for the self esteem right?? onslaught is the video, the most recent one anyway.

also- if you have clip on extensions, do you like them?Can you try on the extensions at sallys beauty supply?
No they don't. But what you can have them do is take the hair out of the package (they come in a clear plastic packet that allows you to slide them out) and have them put them up to your hair to match it. Personally, when I was a newbie at extensions, I would use Sallys hair. BUT, now I do not. They are cheapily made and the hairs fall out! If you want extensions try a local beauty shop (like an african american store, usually they are owned by arabs / chinese etc) They will help you pick out REALLY nice hair, and cheaper than $100. I used to glue mine in, now I get them sewed in. But after the tracks I have sewn in now fall out or become looser I'm going to start to use clip ins. (they give you more options to take out or to leave in)

Just make sure you get 100% HUMAN HAIR, no fake synthetic stuff. If you get synthetic (which sallys has) you can't curl or flat iron.

i want to join dance. but yeah, i have a black (but flat) mole under my right eye. it isn't big, rather small, but visible. and on my left shoulder, there are two marks that are obvious. so if i'm required to wear dance costume that are sleeveless, they will be highly visible. i feel weird. but i can't change this fact, and i'm not going to waste money on removing them. what should i do? do any dancers face same problems? is it bad to have marks that are visible for a dancer?Do dancers have to be perfect on outer beauty?
First of all, you do not have to be pretty to be a dancer. The prettiest dancer might be the worst dancer and the ugliest might be the best dancer. You should ask yourself these questions: Do I enjoy dancing? and Am I looking forward to going to dance class? If you answered yes to both those questions then you should keep dancing. You shouldn't let something as small as blemishes on your body keep you from pursuring your dream. And even if you do have a sleeve-less costume-- make-up always works if you are self-concious about it and won't preform your best with it. I faced the same problem when I broke my arm. I thought everybody was starring at just my arm and not the way I danced, but then I learned to get over it. I'm sure this will work for you. I do face similar problems- I have extreme acne- on my back! Bad.

Yours don't sound too bad, though. If you're really really worried, then just use makeup. Otherwise, don't worry. Everyone has flaws, and once you start dancing no one will notice, I promise. You should just dance, and not let something so silly get in your way.

It doesnt matter what you look like. You sound like a normal person to me. So, why not give it a shot. Dancing is so much fun. I have been a dancer since I was 4, and I'm 13 now. Also, I sorta have a weight problem, and I still dance perfectly. Just try makeup, and if it doesnt work out, dont worry about about. You gave it your best shot, and nobody should judge you by what you look like! Good Luck!!!

If you get a costume that is sleeveles- MAKEUP! it always works for me! and you really shouldnt feel weird about your self , best dancers are confident about themselves not shy! I feel that we should revel in beauty, as we revel in the accomplishments of people because they are good at golf, singing, or dancing. It takes hard work to look pretty. You have to exercise, eat right, employ good hygiene habits,etc. I find most pretty women realize this. This occurs because on a primitive level women are highly competitive with each other. When a woman sees another woman who surpasses her own idea of beauty, she feels threatened. This even touches on why most women have attention and insecurity issues; we need constant reassurance that we are ';the best'; at least by our loved ones. Remember that jealousy stems from insecurity.

I agree that true beauty should be applauded. However, I think that beauty means more than just putting make-up on (a monkey in a dress is still a monkey). Aside from physically taking care of yourself, real beauty needs to come from the inside -- and this is the most difficult kind to find these days.

hi im not sure of your region and what is available as i live in wales.when i trained 14 years ago (im a hairdresser) the two courses were seperate i was only interested in hair so that was the only course i did (2 years college and 1 year in salon experience before i got my nvq certificates)im not sure if they now combine the two best to go along to your local college and get information,but most salons take staff as either hairstylist or beautician .Aswell as hairdressing i would like to do beauty.would i have to do a separate course if i wanted to do this?
Most schools for cosmetology are for hair and makeup as well as a short course in nails (I hated that one), however, I'm not sure in your area. Look in your phone book under school of cosmetology or something similar, and ask. I am sure there are several close by. Hope this helps!

And I see the harsher side of life. The pain which man hands out to man. (Man's inhumanity to man). For most of my life I have worked with refugees and asylum seekers. My eyes are wide open to genuine cases and to miss-use of present laws. But I have also encountered people who have been physically and psychologically tortured and rejected by the country of asylum.

If you talk about nature, one must not forget that people are also part of 'the grand plan'.
In our busy lifes, it seems also impossible to take a breather and as the saying goes ';stop to smell the roses.'; I guess, sometimes, we just fail to see the beauty in the simplest of things in life that are around us everyday.

I'm glad to say, I'm one of those who try to appreaciate things around me, my parents, friends, family, nature etc. Though most of the time its tough, because we tend to only concentrate on the bad and tough times in life, we forget to embrace life itself.

But I guess, seeing the beauty of nature once in a while when we get the time, makes it more precious and even more beautiful.

Women are after physical beauty because society uses it as a factor in how they are treated. Real beauty encompasses confidence and intelligence as well as charm and grace.
Take a look through a magazine like Maxim, FHM, Stuff, etc. How could women NOT feel the pressure to be ';perfect';? The society we live in today has set very unrealistic expectations of ';beauty';. I'm sure if I had my own clothing stylist, hair stylist, and make up artist, I would look that good too! Oh, and especially if I had all my pictures airbrushed and photo shopped, I'm sure I'd look ';beautiful';. Ugh, please. When I think of conventional beauty I think of thin, fair skinned, big eyes, light hair and eyes, and what everyone would describe as pretty- girl next door.

Exotic beauty is more ethnic looking. Darker hair, more pronounced features, darker skin, ';sexy'; looking as opposed to ';sweet'; looking.

I would personally prefer to be an exotic beauty. I think conventional beauties are pretty but exotic beauties are gorgeous.

In my experience, while people say they would pick a good personality or intelligence over beauty, it seems that people are superficial and only look at beauty. Beauty is more important, and I don't mean beautiful in the sense that someone else defines beauty.

Look all over the world and beauty is defined differently. Look all over the world and intelligence is found to be more beautiful.

To me, beauty is the foundation of intelligence. Without beauty intelligence makes no sense.

It is one thing to be intelligent, but without the understanding of beauty intellegence is meglomantic.

The question is somewhat obscure. The reason is that, intelligence is in itself also beautiful. On the other hand, simple formal beauty, such as the apparent beauty of a dumb woman, is not real beauty. Nothing can be considered beautiful, unless there is harmony in it. A good looking, but dumb woman is lacking harmoney, and will soon stop being appreciated.
Intelligence is alluring to me. Beauty can be cloying. I'd pick intelligence because with intelligence often comes humor, perspective, worthwhile anecdotes, wisdom.

I've known people who ceased being physically attractive to me once I realized they weren't that interesting/intelligent. And I've known others whose appeal only showed itself once I was privy to the gorgeous facets of their minds.

Ideally, one would be able to have both intelligence and beauty in a person. But, really, there just aren't enough of us to go around... ; )

You are correct in your evaluation. I know (I am now retired) that my career flourished, and I was hired because of my looks, but if that was all I had I would not have succeeded in it. That said, if I were not smart, and intelligent I would not have been hired, or given even a chance no matter how beautiful I appeared.

We all get so caught up in being right in others eyes we forget that we are supposed to be happy. I want to be physically attracted to someone first and foremost. IF SOMEONE IS BEAUTIFUL they are exposed to light. therefore they have the capacity to grow. intelligent people, who are not AT ALL in touch with their beauty, are hard to work with. They are already reliant on whatthey have. it makes sense to them, and likely they protect it with every fiber of their beineng. generally cant grow well.
I think both are important, but intelligence is more important to me because I need someone willing to talk to me about art and science. Beauty is also important to me, but my idea of beauty is not always the same as in the magazines.

I don't know, but you can go to the photographer's website. His name is on the inside flap of the books, you might be able to ask him.

It doesn't look like the same models are used on all three books, because o AGATB, the girl's hair is more of a brownish red, the second is more of a blondish red, and the third is in between the two. They're all supposed to be Gemma, so they could be the same model, but I doubt it. Use a product like a leave-in conditioner on it, especially on the ends.

ok. get fructis split end after conditioner. you brush your hair and just put it in after. there's extra smooth conditioners you can get. and the whole uneven thing.. maybe find a friend who can trim your ends. if you never get them trimmed THEYLL NEVER GO AWAY trust me. they have salons for a reason.
There are many different things you can try to improve the texture of your hair. One of the things I do is to comb a good conditioner through my hair while in the shower. That way the conditioner is evenly distributed. I also use a leave in product called Herbal Essences None of Your Frizziness. If your hair is anything like mine it will work wonders! It makes your hair softer and the curls a bit smother and helps during styling. When your hair is rough you should look for products that are creamy without being greasy. And always apply them when your hair is still wet. It soaks in the cuticle much better that way. Never use hairspray! It just adds more roughness. Instead use gel or mousse or a styling cream such as V05. Also, never try to style your hair when it is dry! It will just become a frizz ball! Also, don't use the high setting on your blow dryer. I set it to medium and blow dry with my head upside down until my hair is half way dry. Then I let it air dry the rest of the way. Too much heat styling will take away valuable moisture from your hair. Finally, don't wash your hair every day. Some people are grossed out by this but it is really beneficial to you hair that you give it a break from being touched too much. I wash my hair every other day or every third day depending on the weather. Some people go a whole week but I can't do that without feeling itchy! Choose what you are more comfortable with. I know this is a lot of information but hopefully you will find it helpful! Good luck!

First, combing when wet causes most damage. So stop it. Make sure you aren't blow drying either. Buy Citre Shine Smoothin Serum and put on ends after wash to strengthen ends and prevent further breakage. However, trim hair two inches off ends. Split ends only split further up and if you don't cut them off, you'll end up losing more hair because it will break.

Do an olive oil treament every week. After a while you'll probably only need it every other week. What you do is apply warm olive oil and sleep in it then wash it out in the morning. Email me for further instructions :)

Also, try a leave in conditioner, and try not to wash your hair everyday. You may also want to get a thinning cut from a hairdresser down the road.

Trim off the split ends yourself, and use some moisturizing products like Leave-in conditioner, mask, deep conditioner, oil-based frizz serums, or hot oil.

Or just warm your normal conditioner in the microwave in a shot glass for like 2 or 3 seconds (not minutes!) make sure it's not too hot, and put in your hair. Leave it in for several minutes.

Years ago it was in a gold bottle. I don't know if the bottles changed or not, but it makes your hair so silky, soft, bouncy and shiny. They use it for all hair types and if you're a student they dilute the conditioner with water and use it as a leave in conditioner and wrapping spray.

I've tried to call ,but no one answers. I don't have the transportation to get me to the college/ salon. I've gone to the web site but, they have nothing on hair care.

See, the title assumes that those things add up to beauty. A recent poll showed that a vast majority of me (I think 75% or somewhere around there) prefered a woman with meat on her bones as opposed to someone who is ripped, much less a Posh Spice twig.

I am of average size, do not wear makeup, have short hair, and wear flats. My boyfriend still finds me beautiful.

Yet society deems me unattractive because I am not a blonde, orange twig with five pounds of makeup on. Yet most of those women are single.

When someone wants to be in a relationship why is it that most people are only attracted to how someone looks?

When someone male or female wants to hook up with someone it always seems, that these days they judge the other person by what they look like, whether they are really pretty or just average, fat, thin, or average build. I just want to understand why guys mostly can't except and want to be with that person because of who they are not what they look like. I think you're tarnishing them all with the same brush cause of media and what you read etc.

Go into town some day and just look around for a while and you will see that there's people all shapes and sizes with each other and most of the time good looking people get together with each other cause they suit each other, in the looks department anyway.

I don't think it's so much 'brains' people look for as opposed to 'personality'.

How someone looks is fairly irrelevant to how attractive someone is. Of course everyone wants to be with someone attractive, but what people find attractive varies.

e.g. I've been out with a succession of guys with receding hairlines that were definitely not stereotypically 'hot', but they each had something about them that make them attractive to me.

My friend always goes out with very pretty, 'hot' guys - and I just don't find them attractive. For some reason I always see them as kind of fake looking....

A lot of the time whether you like someone's personality will affect how attracted you are to them, if they have a great personality you can find yourself finding them more attractive.
It's not so black and white - there are people who are thin, beautiful AND clever. There are people who are fat, ugly and DONT have any brains - as well as a combination of all of these things. Since time began, people judge others on what they look like - it's just the way it is. Women want to be with a man they find attractive and men want to be with a woman they find attractive - you want to be proud of that person to look at and what is inside. It's all about find the right person for you.
As a guy I can honestly tell you, when a man meets a woman he decides right away if he wants to sleep with her. The first thing you notice is looks, that's just the way it is. Most men would like both for a long term relationship' Men have less of a problem seperating sex from a relationship, but the older a man gets the less looks and sex satisfy, they look more for brains and compatability.
Just because someone has gone for a girl/guy they're attracted to, doesn't necessarily mean their not also interested in someone's personality. Remember that we're thinking beings but we also have physical desires (it's in our genes). There's nothing wrong with that- you don't have to put such a negative spin on it.

The aspect of beauty is really a analyzation of what we would consider a potential mate. Which is a basist instinct.

The key to avoiding wrinkles is well moisturized skin .. you should get a good anti aging night cream and eye cream .. and if you don't like wearing make up , why not try wearing a tinted moisturizer during the day it will make you feel better and your skin more bright and youth full !!

Beauty pageants absolutely serve a purpose in society. I often think of pageants as modern-day etiquette schools for girls and women. They teach poise and manners that seem to have gone by the wayside in modern society. Pageants aren't just about stuffing oneself into a bikini and plastering on the makeup; they teach skills that are important for life. Learning interview/introduction skills through pageants has been very helpful to me now that I am an adult. I have learned how to stand and walk like a lady, and how to dress for various occasions. I'm 14 years old and all I ever hear is ';cleanse,tone,exfoliate etc...';

So I thought I would give it a try. You need to exfoliate, cleanse, tone, steam, mask but in what order? What order do I do all this in and do I need to moisturise after all this?!

Okay Steam and mask are like once a week things so they dont really fit into a daily regime.

Exfoliate then cleanse then tone then moisturise

Use a cleanser, then a toner (liquid) and then use a moisturiser.

If you have oily skin use light cleansers and moisturisers but if you have dry skin you can use ';heavier'; products.

If you have spots restrict the moisturiser and use a tea tree moisturiser (tea tree is good for spots).

As for steaming and masks- Once a week take an hour or two out to ';pamper'; yourself!!

Boil some water and pour it into a large bowl, hold your head above the bowl and drape a towel over your head. If you get too hot pull yourself away for a few seconds and then come back.

With masks its very important to apply it carefully avoiding the eye area, then put cucumber slices over your eyes and relax for 20-30 minutes. Then gently wash off or peel off the mask.

Its very important to test all the products on your skin to make sure your not allergic and follow the instructions on the packet.

- Panel of Judges

- Location where it will be hosted

- Setting a date

- Preliminary Tests for Contestants

- List of Essay Questions to ask Beauty Pageants

- Chaperones

- Finding local sponsorship

- Media and Publications (Local Newspapers and ads)

- Grading Criteria on what constitutes a Beauty Pageant Queen

- Optional Miss Congeniality

- List of Prices for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place

- Contractual obligations of Pageant Entrants must sign

- List of dos and don'ts in the Contract Pageant Contestants sign

If this is for high school, I assume that your staff you take on will be volunteer or people at the high school helping you with this project. You don't want to be overburdened. So delegate certain tasks on people you know you can rely on.

Since this is high school, there most likely won't be a swimsuit competition so there will have to be some other way of measuring Physical Beauty in a tasteful way. The Panel of Judges will take care of that.

You may want to choose distinguished individuals within your community or from the high school staff willing to serve as judges. For the judges you choose, assign them to come up with 5 questions they'll want to ask testing the Intelligence of contestants.

Sponsorships and getting local advertising to help fund the event would help a lot if they can put up posters/banners or get mention of thanks for having donated money to allow the event to be possible.

You may want to try researching in your town. If you ask around, you may be able to find the people who do the local pageants when they select winners for the County. They may be able to give you some advice or tips.How do you host a high school beauty pageant?

Straighten it a bit, experiment with different crops, and brighten the levels a little. Actually, I thought that was the best from your photostream. Your landscapes mostly have crooked horizons and your compositions are too centered and static. Vary how you look at things. Shoot from high and low instead of always a standing position.. Landscapes have more impact when they have a defined foreground, middle and background. I liked the colors abounding in your images. We're really spoiled these days with our computers and software and crap.

If we wanted to bring the beauty out of our pictures, we should have started with the picture itself, at the time we took the picture.

All the above are good suggestions. My suggestion? Take the picture in the early morning, or at sunset, to capture some more natural emotion from the day.

In the end there are a number of things you could do but it all depends where you want to go with it.
for surreal feel you could change the scene in the window to a completely computer generated image.

up the vibrance (colors) and contrast. its all u got going, maybe some blurs to create depth. dodge and burn shadows and highlights make it more dramatic.

This is a tough question. There is a perpetuated myth about our industry....That it's a good career to ';fall back on';.

Yes there is money to be made.

If you rent your station (not a good idea straight out of school) you can expect to work more then 60 hours a week and NOT make any money for quite some time. Upwards to 2 years. But the end result is money money money...all of it yours minus rent and supplies...You are reliant on that clientel and you will have to meet their demands on your schedule and hours or you will perish.

Commission yeilds the same results of having to work lots of hours with no reward for about the same 2 years. End result is 60%-70% of the money and less supplies out of pocket. Decent money and again clientel reliant...Meet the client need or no money and lose clients.

Then there is the hourly employee...You will get minimum wage or near minimum wage. You will have to work a strict schedule with nearly no weekends off. There is usually a goal oriented commission that you don't reach too often. It's set fairly high to prevent the majority from reaching it. The hours are designated so you won't be working 60+ to try to please clientel...Only immediate desk supplies are necessary and some places even provide all but the scissors.

They will hire you part time for a body to fill the space probably out of desperation...but they will resent your lack of hours when they really look at how to fit you in the schedule. Management is usually undereducated and bullyish, so you will find yourself having to complain about the schedule not fitting your college hours...You can see the vicious cycle right there..LoL

So here's the problem...If you Rent? No real money or time for school...Commission? Not enough money or time for school....Employee? Now you will have cash flow...but management will prevent you from going to school...I've seen it in every job I've held...People who go to school to do something OTHER then hairdressing get the short end of the stick...

I work 10 to 12 hours a week my massages are 75 to 85 dollars an hours if. If I do 2 massage a day at 75 dollars an hour that is 150.00 a day x 6 days a week, that is 900.00 a week. Report Abuse

Well if you already good at it.....you should go to beauty school so you can do it legally. But if you want money for school get a job.
Sure is can be a good career, then you could even open up your own salon and work for yourself.

I'm sure that cost vary by region.
beauty is very complicated you could make somebody look ugly or pretty or beautiful.so if you can hook people up and make them look fly then go ahead and try.

I have a biology BSc (degree) and was wondering if there are any careers I could go into in the beauty industry with it, or whether I should just retrain as a beautician?

i think the blind have a better grasp on beauty than most people because they aren't distracted by physical appearance. true beauty is not physical, it is inner beauty, and you find true inner beauty through talking to people rather than looking at them.How can blind people understand what beauty is when they lack sight ?

The same way that a person can love someone who is physically very unattractive (ugly) and when they can tell you that person is so beautiful. They are not seeing (meaning they are blind to) the physical unsightliness of the person but they see the beauty that is within the person.
When you are blind you notice things more thru sound %26amp; touch which are things that you take for granted when you can see. when you are blind there are a lot of things that are more bueatiful like the sounds of birds singing or the sound of rain or the sound of my children laughing. if you can see these things you don't really notice the beauty of the music they make. One other thing you don't see is the uglieness of man and the ugly things people do. believe it or not Things are simpler when you cant see.
i think that they would be able to feel it spiritually. i know that kind of sounds religious but thats what i think. they could probably also know it with that persons personality.
What they may lack in ';sight'; they usually more than makeup in ';insight'; AND touch-and-other-senses-based (think of it as Analog-to-digital conversion) mental reconstruction. ... If the passion is there, sight is a mere detail.

This can apply to people who are literally blind or to those who are blind to beauty, metaphorically speaking.
Maybe they are the only ones that understand real beauty as they are not getting ';blind'; by the fake external beauty, at least for people :)
I think they analyze beauty through touch and sound. They feel the person's facial features and can picture it in their minds. That's my opinion though.
I don't think that beauty is restricted to sight alone. I've smelt, tasted, felt and heard beautiful things before. They say that your other senses heighten when you don't have one of the five senses. Imagine what eating's like, tasting flavors better than everyone else. If you want to know what it's like close your eyes and just listen to music, you don't have to have the ability of sight to see beauty.

Beauty doesn't have to been seen. Beauty can be heard, smelled (such as flowers etc), acted out (such as a good deed), or thought. Beauty is a concept that is different by everyone's standards, including blind people.

I think blind people understand beauty better than people who can see. Though we have this ability, we're blinded by superficiality and judgement through what we see, while blind people in that same respect can see better than we can because they 'look' past that surface. When they experience beauty, they experience it purely. When you sit out on a lake in a boat and hear geese go by, smell the breeze, hear the trickle of the water as it moves past the sides, and feel the sun on your face, that's a sort of beauty. Your other senses can experience that. A blind person doesn't know he's on a lake unless he's told, so he gets the full experience of those senses without his sight obstructing them. This is why a lot of people, when experiencing something beautiful, like a kiss or a cool starry night, will close their eyes and relax and listen (and most importantly feel) instead of look.
They can feel it and see it in their hearts.
